Console Bestia (table Beast)

Sculpture in solid wood and aluminium alloy casting, suitable as desk.

The upper surface is a single 4 in thick board, in old solid wood which was left as natural as possible, in order to preserve its original impact. The industrial legs are aluminium alloy casting, manufactured on original design.

These two materials match the strong energy of the raw wood and the elegant rigour of the stamped form. The oak is naturally curvy as result of weathering.
Two elements come together to mitigate its strength: the polishing and smoothing processing, for a lighter and visually cleaner surface, and the legs, square and rigorous in order to balance the harsh softness of the shapes.

This table is an example of how design can combine different materials into a harmonious blend with the initial characteristics of the matierials matching together and adding value to the final piece.
The inspiration comes from the observation of mammals, whose wide curvy backs seem represented by these large wooden boards.table-Beast.htmltable-Beast.htmlshapeimage_20_link_0shapeimage_20_link_1
